Omówiono filozoficzne poglądy A.Smitha, a zwłaszcza jego koncepcję człowieka na podstawie dwóch dzieł "Teorii uczuć moralnych" i "Bogactwa narodów".

The paper discusses main problems raised by A, Smith in his "Theory of Moral Sentiments". The author focusses on interdependencies between moral ideas of Smith and main concepts of the social philosophy in the XVIII century. In this comparative analysis he refers, above all, to views of D. Hume. The author concludes with pointing out to the fact that an analysis of human being conducted by Smith in the "Theory of Moral Sentiments" is much more insightful then that, made by him in the "Wealth of Nations".
