Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, jak sprawdzone w gospodarce rynkowej instrumenty polityki pieniężnej, w tym operacje otwartego rynku, są stosowane w Polsce, jakie są tego skutki, korzystne i niekorzystne, oraz czego należy oczekiwać w najbliższej przyszłości, biorąc pod uwagę rozwój sytuacji gospodarczej w naszym kraju.

The paper examines open market operations - one of the most powerful instruments of the central bank. It focuses on the open market policy in Poland: how it works, what are the results, experience, and expectations. The principles of auction sales of papers issued by the Polish National Bank were presented. One of the main obstacles in obtaining the aims of the open market policy is lack of demand for bonds, even on the primary market. This is the result of unability of the economy to generate surpluses and convert them into capital expenditures using bonds and shares. It seems that in the future the Polish central bank should increasingly utilize short-term government bonds. (original abstract)
