The paper has been written on the basis of the materials collected during a several months' stay in the Paris Region. It is a thorough report including all the problems in the history of the 30-years-old airport. On January 13, 1964 the Council of Ministers of France accepted the localization and decided to start building the greatest and most modern airport in France, by standards of the 21st century. The work began in 1966 and according to the building programme it was to continue for tens of years. The airport was continuously extended with the use of the latest technical achievements. Now it covers the area of about 6.500 ha. It is a very busy and rapidaly developing town integrally connected with the Paris Region. The paper consists of several threads which include: a short outline of the airport development, the state of the airport in 1993 (runways and taxi tracks, navigation equipment, traffic organization in the airspace of Paris, Terminal 1, freight terminal, airport service centre, technical base, fuel system, air and weather protection, connections, operation of the airport).(original abstract)
