The paper presents controversies concerning the main message of Keyne's "General Theory". The first part is devoted to the theoretical premises of the "General Theory". In the second part the author discusses a problem of microeconomic foundations of Keyne's theory which plays an important role in the current methodological debates in economics. In the third part the author turns his attention to the different interpretations of Keyne's views on economic policy. The focus is on the debate initiated by A. Meltzer's paper published in 1981. The paper is concluded with some general remarks about the assessment of the "General Theory's" role in the process of accumulation of economic knowledge. (original abstract)
