Autorka omówiła pojęcie "szarej strefy", przyczyny jej powstania, metody szacowania, jej rozmiary w gospodarce i ekonomiczne konsekwencje i sposoby ograniczania.

The paper aims at presenting the volume of Poland's black economy, ways of preventing its expansion and its consequencies. The size of the black economy measured in terms of its share in the GDP is twice that of industrialized countries. Its size has expanded in the course of the transformation of Poland's economy. During the first stage of its transformation the development of such parallel economy was perceived to be a stimulant for the economy. But that stage has quickly come to an end. Budget deficits which are partially generated by the black economy make it necessary to identify its causes and to take steps aimed at reducing its volume. Such steps are being taken in areas relating to customs, taxation, extortion of bank loans which are not secured by adequate collateral, and frauds committed during privatization of state-owned companies.(original abstract)
