Przedmiotem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników analizy roli i działalności różnych instytucji o zasięgu regionalnym, uczestniczących w procesie restrukturyzacji gospodarki własnego regionu, a także zwrócenie uwagi na instytucjonalne jej bariery.

The paper deals with some conclusions reached on the basis of the research project entitled "Regional and Local Conditions of Restructuring of Poland's Economy" carriedout in the 4th quarter of 1994 in 9 provinces of south-eastern Poland, that is the Provinces of Bielsko-Biała, Kielce, Kraków, Krosno, Nowy Sącz, Przemyśl, Rzeszów, Tarnobrzeg and Tarnów. The research in question has focused, amongst others, on the role of various institutions in the process of regional restructuring such as The Agency for Regional Development, various state administration bodies, local-government, foudations and associations for regional development and support of entrepreneurship as well as of organizations of economic local-government and of businesses. On the basis of the results of the research in question the author has elaborated a characterization of institutional frameworks of regional restructuring in the various provinces which has subsequently facilitated the definition and description in the paper of various barriers of regional development.
