Omówiono modele, budowę, strukturę i funkcjonowanie giełd. Autor prezentuje dwa podstawowe modele giełd: amerykański i kontynentalno- europejski.

In the article the author presents the two trends, which are now dominant in the world, concerning the creation and functioning of exchanges: the American model and the continental - European, and how they compare to the situation in Poland. Apart from that, the author presents some basic information concerning exchanges and their role in the market economy. the creation of exchanges in Poland should be based on the solutions that proved successful in the West as they are the barometer of the state of the economy, and clearly demonstrate the supply and demsnd for a given commodlity. The organization and structure of exchanges have been presented in general terms as their specific features make it impossible to point out the one universal organizational model that would prove adequate in all cases. The functioning of exchanges is determined by the state that can affect them directly or indirectity to make them flexible. However, my favourite is the alternative American model. Combining the American conception with the Polish reality would make exchanges more dynamic and aggressive when compared to exchanges supervised centrally by state officiales. (original abstract)
