Przedstawiono istotę kapitału trwałego w ujęciu rzeczowym i finansowym oraz jego ruch okrężny (reprodukcja środków trwałych), dziedziny i zasady gospodarowania środkami trwałymi, rezerwy produkcyjne i uwarunkowania gospodarki kapitałem trwałym - zwracając szczególną uwagę na różne nieprawidłowości utrudniające racjonalizację wykorzystania kapitału rzeczowego.

In the period of the transformation of the economic system and constantly changing conditions of operation the functioning and expansion of enterprises is determined to a great extent by economic effectiveness of all kinds of business activities. It applies, among others, to a rational use of the capital at the disposal of an enterprise and creation of new resources of manufacturing potential. Capital is an indispensable attribute of an enterprise and its types, volume and structure have a decisive impact on the nature and range of a business activity undertaken by contemporary enterprises. From the point of view a principles of its management it follows that the capital of a definite volume and available for a definite time is decisive for the establishment and continuity of a business entity, determines its market position and defines its economic and financial standing and development potential. Focusing on factors contributing to the growth of efficiency and fixed assets management conditions results from the fact that the state of this capital, its quantitative and qualitative growth, its use and its efficient management condition the reaching of output targets and have a significant impact on the maximization of the market value of any industrial enterprise.
