Autorka dąży do rozpoznania aksjologicznych racji natury filozoficzno-socjologicznej, które łącznie ze stosowną koncepcją natury ludzkiej pełnią rolę uzasadnień dla zakładanej przez Adama Smitha wyższości systemu rynkowego. Zaznacza, że koncepcja Smitha nawiązuje do kilku różnorodnych systemów aksjologicznych, które sprowadza się do utylitarystycznej, racjonalistycznej i ewolucjonistycznej postaci argumentacji. Zawarta w tytule artykułu formuła "niewidzialnej ręki" symbolizuje mechanizm rynkowy i zakłada zarówno oczywistość, jak i złożoność pojęcia rynkowej samoregulacji.

The formula of "invisible hand" introduced to the economic thought by A. Smith has gained in liberal conceptions the status of a fundamental argument which explains effectiveness and, consequently, rationality of the market economy. The subject of this article is the analysis of cultural context of the concept of "invisible hand", i.e. presentation of these assumptions of philosophical and sociological nature which in the works of Smith function as arguments to explain both the existance and the way of functioning of this mechanism coordinating economic activity of individuals. The presented assumptions of utalitarian, evolutionist and rationalistic types as regards the nature of a human being and the society are recognised as a collection of justifications of axiological character. Their role consists in exposing and positive sanctioning of certain social phenomena (mainly those beyond the sphere of economy) whose presence, spread or disapperance is from the viewpoint of "free market" philosophy the condition for materialisation of "natural" effectiveness and rationality of this form of economic activity. The author treats the variety or internal heterogeneity of this argumentation (Das Adam Smith Problem) as a poperty characteristic for the functioning of the concept of normative nature. In this case the fact that these concepts use non-commensurable empirical-logical premises is not a sufficient reason to question them. (original abstract)
