Abstrakty

Przedstawiono różne metody miar w ocenie sytuacji gospodarczej krajów członkowskich, stosowanych przez Bank Światowy. Jedną z najważniejszych to produkt narodowy brutto. Autor postuluje zrezygnowanie z miar pieniężnych w ocenie poziomu życia ludności, na rzecz czynników życia codziennego (dostęp do czystej wody, ilość białka konsumowanego przez osobę w ciągu dnia, analfabetyzm, długość życia ludności oraz infrastruktura).

The World Bank uses different measures to appraise the economic states of it's member countries so as to determine who to lend money, how much, etc. The question is : how far does the socio-economic measures reflect the realities existing in given country. One of these measures is the Gross National Product (GNP). The GNP is criticised by many economists especially for not taking account a country's products which are not sold in markets and do not appear in any accounts. With that reason, the World Bank proposed a new measure to generally estimate a country's riches. This new measure suggested by the World Bank, when used, shows only how developing countries are poor in infrastructure and equipment, unfortunately did not evaluate the standard of life in the member countries. Other methods proposed by international organisations are also wanting or are inaccurate. My opinion is, it would be better to depart from evaluations based on money and concentrate on the common personal needs irrespective of where one is or stays. I have in mind literacy, average life expectancy, availability of clean water, etc. (original abstract)
