In the 1950's of this century the third industrial revolution began. All spheres of economic life are currently subject to intensified processes of computerisation and automation, thus reducing the participation of man in production. This drama has far reaching implications as the system of insurance and social care is based on permanent employment. No systematic studies on the effects of the present revolution have been taken so far, although it is commonly known that work has always been the basis of existence and functioning of human civilisation. In the light of labour-related problems, one can speak about the Japanese illness "Karoshi" which resulted in hundreds of deaths and the cause of which is a serious disturbance of the biological rhythm of every day life, i.e. virtually work. Along with the expansion of modern technology the problems of working time, incomes and wages, reasonable work, ownership, social income and the like call for urgent solutions. One of the options to improve labour-related problems is to create the "third sector" - non-governmental organisations where the most important role will be played by common awareness, sense of responsibility, initiative and commitment. Serious tasks are facing permanent education which should considerably precede the processes of globalisation. (original abstract)
