Celem artykułu jest wskazanie głównych czynników determinujących kierunki i poziom aspiracji pracowników. Autorka przedstawiła wybrane koncepcje zajmujące się tymi czynnikami oraz interpretację koncepcji teoretycznych.

In the article the author presents selected conceptions concerning factors determining the choice of the direction of an individual's development (a career). A career development process is affected by numerous facts such as sex, family background, biology and personality, way of thinking and learning, values, potential and interests, stage in life, needs. All of them along with the difficulties and obstacles arising in their realization may be diagnosed and explained. Knowledge in this sphere will help a personnel manager to make the right prognosis of the direction of employees' professional development thus making their work more effective. (original abstract)
