Axel v. Werder sformułował zasady racjonalnego zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem, które mają przyczynić się do poprawy jakości zarządzania. Werder nie wziął jednak pod uwagę współczesnych uwarunkowań biznesu: kompleksowości i dynamiki otoczenia oraz konfliktów w grupie. W artykule autor odnósł się krytycznie do tych zasad, wskazał ich podstawowe problemy i naszkicował alternatywne perspektywy, które będą bardziej odpowiednie do zastosowania w praktyce.

In the past few years spectacular crises of several German firms have been reported in the business press time and again. Metallgesellschaft, Bremer Vulkan and Deutz are some of the recent and well-known examples. According to business press commentators these examples are only the top of an iceberg and reveal a fundamental weakness in the quality of German business management. The German management researcher Axel v. Werder has focused on this problem and developed guidelines of business conduct ("Grundsaetze ordnungsmaessiger Unternehmungsfuehrung") which in his view contribute to the improvement of the quality of business management. This paper critically reviews Axel v. Werder's suggestions. As will be shown, his proposal is problematic as it does not really consider far enough the contemporary conditions of business management: the complexity and the dynamics of the environment, and conflicts with various stakeholder groups. We will argue that these guidelines can induce synoptic planning and bureaucratic organizing thus further deteriorating the situation of business management. Therefore, we will sketch an alternative perspective which is more appropriate to the conditions of ambiguity and conflict. (original abstract)
