W artykule autorka wskazała na wzrastającą rolę kapitału zagranicznego na polskim rynku usług bankowych. Podała przykłady banków z dominującym udziałem kapitału zagranicznego (Bank PeKaO SA, Bank Zachodni) oraz zaangażowania się banków zagranicznych w polskim sektorze bankowym.
A substantial improvement in the Polish investment environment was noted in the 1990's. Poland's future membership of the European Union has greatly influenced the inflow of foreign capital. Significant amounts were invested in the banking system in Poland. In 1999, the largest number of investors came from Germany. American investors took the second place, followed by companies from Italy, France, and the Netherlands investors. In 1999, Vin Credito Italiana, which was in the second position with USD 1.045 billion invested in the banking sector, took over 52.9 procent of the shares in PKO S.A. The second biggest investment in the Polish banking system in 1999 was the acquisition of 80 procent of the shares in Bank Zachodni S.A. by Allied Irish Bank Plc. The transactions connected with PKO S.A. and Bank Zachodni changed the structure of ownership in the Polish banking sector. In short, it is not very profitable for domestiic capital - only 44 procent of total assets belong to Polish capital. (original abstract)
