The article presents chances and hazards to the Polish commercial insurance sector resulting from the competition coming from the European Union. It describes two basis issues: chances and hazards to Polish insurance institutions caused by the incoming flow of foreign investment in Poland, and those originating from the prospective accession into the European Union and joining the regular insurance market. Unfortunately, the analysis shows that the hazards prevail over chances, which may mean that for the Polish insurance sector accession into the EU will have negative results.(original abstract)
