Przedstawiono dyrektywy obowiązujące w Unii Europejskiej, dotyczące plastikowego pieniądza, do których musi dostosować się Polska przed przystąpieniem do UE. Omówiono stan i perspektywy rozwoju polskiego systemu kart płatniczych wobec wyzwań europejskich.

The prospect of Poland's accesion into the European Union is not a major hazard to the Polish pay-card system. However, it affects its ongoing transformation process. The ten years of the presence of plastic money on Polish market saw a rapid development of this market both in qualitative and quantitive terms. The currently offerd products meet the EU standards and are accompanied by steadily developing technical infrastructure. The only related sphere that still needs developing is harmonisation of Polish legislation and developing a system of protection for the consumers of banking services.(original abstract)
