Retail Trade in the Space of Poznan. The Present State and the Trends of Development

Abstrakty
Artykuł zawiera ocenę stanu i kierunków rozwoju handlu w aglomeracji poznańskiej. Autorzy przedstawiają stan i strukturę handlu detalicznego Poznania w latach 1991-1996, analizują rozmieszczenie handlu w przestrzeni miasta i kierunki rozwoju oraz wskazują tendencje zmian lokalizacji handlu w miastach wybranych krajów europejskich (Francja i Niemcy).
Trade plays a significant role in the economy of cities and is a significant element shaping urban public space. Poznan, perceived in Poland as a dynamically developing centre of business and international fairs has a well-developed network of retail stores. Over 12,5 procent (1998) of labour force are involved in trade. The degree of saturation of particular disctricts with retail shops and the average size of trade outlets are bigger than the average in Poland. From 1994 there has been observed a progressive branch specialisation of the shops of small and medium-sized area as well as the development of multi-branch large area stores. New trade centres situated on the outskirts of the city are being built where several large space stores of different branches are located. It is necessary to prepare the concept of further trade development in the city which will determine its preferences for the selected forms of trade in the centre and the principles of further development of the peripheral trade centres of Poznan.
