Artykuł zawiera informacje na temat stosowanej terminologii i struktury wewnętrznej systemów informacji przestrzennej. Autor przedstawia definicje systemu informacji przestrzennej (SIP) stosowane w literaturze polskiej i anglojęzycznej. Omawia poszczególne części składowe SIP: sprzęt komputerowy, oprogramowanie, dane, zasoby ludzkie i metody.
