E-biznes, to według IBM, całkowita transformacja zasad prowadzenia działalności gospodarczej, przy wykorzystaniu Inetrnetu, technologii cyfrowych i telefonicznych. Bankowość elektroniczna, jako przykład typowego e-biznesu, zapoczątakowana została przez organizację stanowisk komputrowych, które umożliwiały samodzielne obsłużenie klienta za pomocą zainstalowanego w bankach systemu on-line. Autorka skupiła się na omówieniu sposobu dystrybucji usług bankowych drogą elektroniczną oraz nad umiejscowieniem Internetu w działalności bankowej.
The marriage of computers and communication networks is transforming most aspects of business and consumer activities. Banks still handle money, but information, not money, is now the lifeblood of banking idustry. The banking industry has to confront three new facts of business. First, banks are now competing in a customer's market. Second, this market is global and customers can access this market from anywhere in the world, at any time. Third, the competition for these customers is coming from very powerful nonbank players. Electronic banking offers many delivery channels of financial services. A customer can select the automated banking machines, the telephone or the personal computer, even the television set. Another technological alternative is the delivery of financial services via high-speed telecommunications chnnels - meaning fully integrated voice, data, and imagines that enable customers to do banking transactions while interacting directly with bank representatives via network computers.
