Treść referatu dotyczy ogólnej charkterystyki barier i ograniczeń występujących się w bankowości elektronicznej. Autor podejmuje próbę określenia granic dla bankowości elektronicznej oraz porządkuje zagrożenia związane z tą sferą działalności.

This paper concentrates on those threats and limitations, which are capable to impact the development of electronic banking. The various definitions of electronic banking are reviewed and an own definition is introduced. The threads, barriers and limitation likely to affect electronic commerce in general, and electronic banking in particular, are classified initially as internal and external to the organisation. Only the latter are discussed in the paper, for which purpose these are further subdivided into three groups: technical, structural and systemic. These three groups are discussed in detail, with numerous practical examples and special emphasis on security matters and problem of standards related to the area. Three provisional standards are considered: XML document exchange, Wireless Application Proctocol and Bluetooth short distance communications. The lack of maturity of these standards and fast development of the entire area, create a serious threat for all e-commerce aplications. If these factors are not taken into concideration while designing e-systems, their initiatiors (including banks) will continue spending huge amounts of money just to stay abreast of the time and to stand the pressure of competitors. To stay in business banks once again need to re-consider their own position: there is a strong need not to give up the new opportunities offered by continuous and fast development of new facilities, and to expand into areas entirely new to banking. Otherwise banks could be further marginalised, with their operational scope limited to collection and wholesale of money. (original abstract)
