Influence of Foreign Direct Investments on Transfer of Technology to a Host Country

Abstrakty
Jedną z form transferu technologii stanowią zagraniczne inwestycje bezpośrednie (ZIB). Są one dokonywane w dużej mierze przez korporacje wielonarodowe, które jednocześnie są liderami w zakresie innowacji. W artykule przedstawiono rolę zagranicznych inwestycji bezpośrednich w nabywaniu technologii, procesach jej uczenia się oraz tworzenia nowych rozwiązań w krajach goszczących.
The article presents influence of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the transfer of technology to a host country. The subject of analysis is both developing and developed countries. The FDI brings along not only a very modern technology but it can also be of great advantage for the development of national technological capabilities and technological multiplication, which is confirmed by empirical examples. On this basis a conclusion has been drawn that the FDI contribute significantly to the development of the innovation potential of the host country. The premises to approve of this thesis are, however, to a certain extent of intuitive character. There still remains a problem of adequate empirical verification of this influence due to a lack of complex studies in this field and changes in the very understanding of technology and its transfer in the 1990s.
