Ideas of unification were carried through to their fullest in the 20 th century. Two paths of European integration were followed. Chronolically the first to emerge was the unitary-authoritarian one, which took on two different forms: Stalinist, which in a vulgarised manner was putting into effect the slogan "ploretarians of all countries unite" and Hitlerite, known under the name of the new fascist European order. The second path, the federal democratic one, has been taking shape and increasingly gaining momentum from the middle of the 20th century. (short original abstract)
