Economic Situation of the Food Industry in Poland in the 1990s

Przedstawiono charakterystykę przemysłu w okresie transformacji, z uwzględnieniem zmian w wielkości i strukturze produkcji oraz nakładów inwestycyjnych i zatrudnienia. Omówiono wyniki ekonomiczne przemysłu spożywczego na tle uwarunkowań makroekonomicznych.
The main aim of the article is to assess the economic situation of the food industry in the 1990S. During the period of transformation the development of this sector was differentiated in its particular branches. A particularly dynamic growth was observed in the branches linked with secondary processing and extended processing (brewing, soft drinks, tobacco and food concentrates industries). On the other hand, in the fields of the primary processing of agricultural products (slaughter of animals, production of sugar, spirits, animal fats and feeding stuffs) a considerable decline was observed. Moreover, it was pointed out that the economic situation and development of the food industry are determined by general macroeconomic conditions, independently of internal factors.
