Omówiono pojęcie i funkcje gospodarstwa domowego. Przedstawiono strukturę majątkową gospodarstw domowych w Polsce w latach 1993-1998, tj.: wydatki, dochody i oszczędności tych gospodarstw.

The article presents the economic situation of the Polish households divided into six social-economic groups in the years 1993-1998. The main analysis is preceded by the information from the Central Statistical Office. This information concerns a household as a unit of statistical research and most of the statistical data used in the article come from the Central Statistical Office. Further on the author presents the bases of economic theories treating the households as market participants. The main analytical part concerns the equipment of households with consumer durables as well as the households' incomes and expenditures. Particular attention is paid to the households connected with agriculture whose economic situation is much worse than that of the remaining groups. The final part of the article presents synthetic conclusions. (original abstract)
