Autorka prezentuje problem skracania czasu pracy we Francji jako formę zwalczania bezrobocia. Analizuje analogiczne zagadnienie w krajach Europy Zachodniej. Omawia zmiany w organizacji tygodnia roboczego i przedstawia bilans podsumowujący pierwszy rok wprowadzenia reformy we Francji. Podkreśla, że zysk wypływający ze zwiększenia miejsc pracy jest większy niż koszty z tym związane.
This article discusses the problem of shorter working hours in France in relation to other European countries. The concept of shorter working hours is discussed here as an instrument on the labour market aimed at increasing employment levels. In the first part of this article, the author looks at the progress made in this area in different countries, and then looks at its history in France itself. The main part of the article deals with the current state of reform with regard to working hours in France and its legal framework. The author discusses ways of introducing changes in enterprises, the assistance provided by the state in this sphere, and the track record of reform so far. At present, no unequivocal assessment can be made of the importance of shorter working hours as an instrument for reducing unemployment. It is assumed that the whole reform process will still take many years and only after its conclusion will it be possible to examine how effective it is. (original abstract)
