Abstrakty

Procesy globalizacji gospodarki i rozwój integracji europejskiej wiążą się z zasadniczymi zmianami w dotychczasowym funkcjonowaniu państw narodowych i ich gospodarek. W artykule omówiono zagadnienia dotyczące: demokracji w kontekście procesów integracji gospodarczej, międzynarodowych wyzwań demokracji w następstwie procesów globalizacji oraz problemów demokracji w krajach Unii Europejskiej.

Globalisation process in the economy and the growth of European integration cause fundamental changes in the existing way of functioning of national states and their economies. The existing mechanism and democratic institutions connected with transformation of contemporary national states are also subject to change. Those states have no intention of disappearing but they gradually restrict their competence as regards economy and politics. At the same time for nearly fifty years a greater and greater influence is gained by the EU institutional structures, their activities and decisions. Therefore, a problem arises of how to ensure the proper functioning of democratic mechanism in the EU structures and how to realise the ideas of development of European (and global) civil society. The above-mentioned questions are discussed in the article. (original abstract)
