W związku z ciągłym wzrostem konkurencyjności przetrwanie wielu małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw będzie zależało w coraz większym stopniu od innowacyjności. Autorka opisuje poziom, a także źródła i bariery innowacji w małych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach.

This article looks at the issue of innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises. In the first part, the author offers some general remarks on the subject of innovation and discusses methods for researching this phenomenon. In the second part, she assesses the level of innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises on the basis of existing research. She also discusses the sources of, and barriers to innovation in the SME sector. The next part of the article includes a discussion of both existing and planned programmes supporting the innovation of SMEs and also looks at the work of the National Services System [KSU] which creates the conditions in which SMEs can develop and increase their competitiveness. The article concludes with a presentation of research results regarding the innovativeness of small and medium-sized organizations in the Małopolska voivodship. The aim of the research, which covered 64 enterprises, was to describe not only specific examples of innovation, but more importantly to describe the wide variety of conditions shaping the activities of an innovative organization.
