Events of September 2001 brought to our closer attention the problems of civilizations and apparent conflicts (or clashes) among them. Famous theory of Samuel Huntington seemed to be the best explanation of what was happening in the world. The growing interest in the concepts of civilization, culture and cultural identity has influenced also Polish debatŠ about European integration. There is awareness among both Euro-enthusiasts and Euro-skeptics in Poland that the process of integration should be considered and discussed also on the level of such large social entities as cultures and civilizations. According to the author of the article, taking these concepts and arguments into account lets us to understand better the current discussions about European integration and its possible consequences.
