W pracy scharakteryzowano najważniejsze, spotykane obecnie materiały włókiennicze, mające podstawowe zastosowanie w produkcji odzieży wodoodpornej. Przedstawiono analizę danych uzyskanych od producentów oraz nakreślono dalsze perspektywy badawcze.

At present a dynamic development of multifunctional, flat textiles - cloths and knitted fabrics - is observed. They are the materials characterized by many properties which make it possible to obtain adequate protective qualities. At the same time, for clothes made from them, they ensure high comfort of use. The research done by the manufacturers resulted in the development of complex technologies enabling the production of textiles fulfilling the requirements of water resistance and, at the same time, characterized by water vapour and air permeability. The new materials are used for the production of protective clothing, working clothing, sportswear, rainproof clothing, wherever protective functions are to be connected with adequate comfort of use. A notion of active clothing has appeared, which means clothes that directly participate in the formation of a microclimate between the human body and the surface of a garment. The presented paper concerns the stage of the studies dealing with the properties of waterproof fiat textiles. The main objective of the paper was to gather the data and present and discuss the most important properties which are essential for waterproof materials from the point of view of a user. In the paper the most important, presently available textiles used for the manufacture of waterproof clothing are characterized. The analysis of the data obtained from the manufacturers is presented and further research prospects are outlined. (original abstract)
