Veryfication of Wharton's Model of Interdependence Among Unemployment, Prices and Wages Level in Polish Circumstances

Abstrakty
W artykule przeprowadzono analizę zależności stopy bezrobocia i poziomu płac oraz cen w Polsce. Zaznaczono, że wysoki poziom bezrobocia wiąże się z wysoką inflacją i nie pozwala wykorzystać optymalnie mocy produkcyjnych gospodarki w Polsce.
The paper presents another trial of verification of Wharton's model. The problems of unemployment and its causes were widely presented in many publications, even in local papers, especially after beginning of evident unemployment problems in 1990. The subject of analysis is usually effect prices' rate of growth on rate of unemployment or wages' dynamics connected with growth of working capacity and employment. In 1980's when the idea of increasing employment by active fiscal policy was doubted there was given new hypothesis representing too high cost of wages (caused by its level) or too little working efficiency as main reason of chronic unemployment. The authors made a trial of testing and verifying the strength and direction of interdependence among prices, wages and unemployment, but also they tried to estimate the effect of unemployment in earlier terms on present wages level (according tu foundation of Wharton's model). Analysis is completed with a short description of dependence between unemployment and education and age. The author's conclusions are illustrated by empirical data and graphs. (original abstract)
