Procesy restrukturyzacyjne przedsiębiorstw w Polsce zapoczątkowane w latach 90, objęły również firmy państwowe sektora turystycznego. W pracy omówiono przyczyny, oraz zakres i przebieg restrukturyzacji Polskiego Biura Podróży "Orbis". Szczegółowo omówiono prywatyzację: części hotelowej, pionu turystycznego i części transportowej.

Poland's systemic transformation, which began in 1989, compelled enterprises - and especially state ones - to adapt themselves to the market economy and restructure in the widest sense of the word. The aim was more effective management and the modernisation of enterprises by imbuing them with flexibility and adaptability and making them more innovative. This would ensure competitiveness and long-term growth. Restructuring was complex and multifaceted, with privatisation and changes in legal and organisational from (commercialisation). It also involved the rationalisation of employment levels, the scope of business, internal organisation and finance. The state tourism sector was not overlooked in this process and ot began to be restructured in the second half of 1990. This began with the oldset and best-known player on the Polish tourism market: the Orbis state enterprise. The subject and aim of the article is to elucidate the reasons, scope and course of its organisational and ownership changes. (original abstract)
