Labour migration between Poland and Germany has a long history. Currently, the economic connections between both countries are getting tighter, in the area of labour migration as well as in the area of capital flows. Poland is the major labour exporter to Germany and among the major receivers of German direct investment capital.. As Poland will join the EU as a full member within the next few years, the issue of economic relations between both countries is becoming increasingly relevant in public discussions as wells on the political agenda. In particular, questions of labour migration raise strong interest. In Germany, the possibility of free trans-border movement of Polish labour meets mixed feelings on the political and private level. The large number of Polish people being legally and illegally employed in Germany demonstrates that economic interests on both sides of the border coincide. This paper analyses the significance of Polish labour force in Germany's economic development, with special consideration of the agricultural sector. In addition, it considers potential implications for the Polish economy. It starts from the hypothesis that Polish-German labour migration could provide a stimulus to the economic growth of both countries. (original introduction)

Przedstawiono skalę emigracji siły roboczej z Polski, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wyjazdów do Niemiec. Zaprezentowano rolę pracowników z Polski w rozwoju Niemiec. Wskazano, że nie oczekuje się zwiększonego napływu migrantów z Polski po jej integracji z UE.
