Begging in Poland as a Social Issue

Artykuł zawiera charakterystykę zjawiska żebractwa w Polsce, dokonaną na podstawie badań własnych autorki. Badania te przeprowadzone zostały w latach 1996-2001 na terenie miasta Poznania i w kilku wybranych miastach Polski o zróżnicowanej liczbie mieszkańców. Autorka ustaliła statystyczny obraz żebrzącego w Polsce.
On the basis of researches which were carried out on the population at begging people between 1996-2001 in Poznań and other selected places in Poland, profiles of begging people were made. On the basis of own researches which were made by the author of this article, it is possible to affirm that begging, currently is one of the most important social issues in Poland, witch could be the cause of extreme poverty. The researches proved also that some part of begging people come from very small communities, for example country societies. The begging people coming from these social groups arrive in the cities to go in for dealings of begging and they want to be anonymous. The author gives a statistical sight of begging persons on the basis of researches. She also characterizes relationships between passers-by, potential almoners, and begging person. The begging issue requires intervention of the state. Through professional actions (operation for instance) entities of social policy should be appointed to fight with poverty, for example: Social Services, and also operations of social organizations. There should be done one's very best to create a reliable social diagnosis of the begging issue which is the basis to take action by local government to decrease begging dealings. (original abstract)
