Omówiono cechy i rozwiązania organizacyjne systemu gwarantowania depozytów i ich wpływ na stabilność systemu bankowego. Przedstawiono miejsce i rolę Bankowego Funduszu Gwarancyjnego w stabilizowaniu sektora finansowego w Polsce.

The significance of banking sector stability and the potential for depositors to suffer losses j in case of instability, force many countries to establish a deposit insurance system despite its imperfections. The main argument in favour of such measures is maintaining confidence in the banking sector in case of financial difficulty of an individual bank. It is a way of prevention from such high-risk phenomena as mass withdrawals of deposits which can directly result in a banking crisis. The following article presents the issues connected with the existence of legitimacy of deposit insurance systems covering their advantages and disadvantages at the same time. It also discusses the role played by the Bank Guarantee Fund in Polish banking sector stabilization which is to guarantee deposits as well as to develop assistance activity for banks facing financial problems.
