The article considers the currency undervaluation story in Central and East Europe and proposes an alternative explanation for the currency phenomenon. First, traditional interpretations of the undervaluation story are summarised and some of its deficiencies discussed. The second section explains the measured initial undervaluation by price structure differences between post-socialist economies and West European market economies.

Artykuł omawia zjawisko niedoszacowania walut w krajach Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Przedstawiono klasyczne interpretacje niedoszacowania walut oraz konsekwencje takiego niedoboru.
