Development pattern of the sector of small and medium enterprises (SME) in Poland in the 1990s is analysed in the paper with respect to the: size of SME sector, its role in the economy, branch distribution, impact of foreign direct investment and innovativeness of SMEs. As the main conclusions, the author emphasizes still fast growth of SMEs over last years (especially within services area, like financial intermediation, real estate, renting etc.) which is however endangered in the long-run by the generally low innovativeness of SME sector.
Artykuł omawia trendy rozwojowe w obrębie sektora małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw (MSP) w Polsce w latach 90-tych. Przedstawiono wielkość sektora MSP, jego rolę w gospodarce, kierunki jego rozwoju w latach 1994-97, wpływ inwestycji zagranicznych na konkurencyjność i innowacyjność MSP. Autor stwierdza, że w ostatnich latach nastąpił szybki wzrost sektora MSP, zwłaszcza w sferze usług. Jednak dalszy rozwój sektora jest zagrożony na skutek ogólnie niskiej innowacyjności przedsiębiorstw.
