Jörg-Volker Schrader, an economist at the Institute for World Economy, Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, takes up the vital issue of the present and future of the agricultural policy of the European Union. He traces the evolution of the goals of Germany's agricultural policy, particularly with respect to one of its segments, viz.milk and beef production. The article highlights the German perspective, taking also into account the differences of opinion that divide not only the public opinion in Germany but also those directly concerned such as farmers.
