W opracowaniu przedstawiono bayesowskie porównywanie konkurencyjnych modeli SV (Stochastic Volatility) z normalnym błędem obserwacji i błędem t-Studenta. Zaprezentowaną metodologię wykorzystano do porównania mocy wyjaśniającej modeli SV wykorzystanych do opisu zmienności warszawskiego indeksu giełdowego.

The paper presents general methods of the Bayesian inference and model selection. The Bayesian methodology is used to compare various Stochastic Volatility models describing the Volatility of the Warsaw Stock Exchange Index (WIG), from 16 April 1991 till 29 December 2000. We consider the SV model with Gaussian errors in the mean equation, and the SV models where the mean equation disturbances follow Student-r distributions with fixed or unknown degrees of freedom. Our empirical results indicate that the SV model with Gaussian errors (the simplest possible SV model) fits the data better than the SV models with Student-r errors. By attributing the volatility its own stochastics we can partly account for the outliers without using a fat-tailed distributions. (original abstract)
