Na podstawie danych dotyczących gospodarki polskiej w latach 1995-2003 przedstawiono analizę związków między bezrobociem i produkcją. Testowano hipotezę o braku przyczynowości w sensie Grangera między produkcją i zatrudnieniem.

The article starts with a statement that a high rate of unemployment is typical of nearly all post-communist countries. The average rate of unemployment in the post-communist countries treated as a whole is almost twice as high as in the fifteen countries of the European Union. The example of Poland shows that unemployment decreased when the rate of GDP growth exceeded 5%. As soon as the rate of growth fell below this limit unemployment started to increase. Thus might suggest that the rate of growth exceeding 5% per year is an effective remedy for this phenomenon. In their article the authors put forward a pessimistic hypothesis that it is impossible to achieve such a rate of growth precisely because of high unemployment. Thus we have to tackle the case of a vicious circle which has already been described as regards other economic phenomena. The authors mention different reasons for which unemployment hinders the rate of growth and further on, in the second part of the article, they present the results of statistical analysis during which the main thesis of their article was verified. The analysis did not show any close dependence between the level of unemployment and the level of GDP. However, at the end of the article the authors raise some objections of methodological character concerning the usefulness of the method applied. (original abstract)
