Przedstawiono główne cechy krajobrazu Karkonoszy. Omówiono powiązania między polityka przestrzenną a atrakcyjnością turystyczną.

Today's landscape of the Giant Mountains reflects the socio-economic development of this region in the past. Changing dominant economic functions of the region have influenced the change in its land use and landscape structure. The positive changes are for instance complete elimination of arable land from the mountain area. But there are tendencies threatening the landscape diversity, being the main advantage for tourism. The activities that deserve a negative opinion are the forestation of in-forest glades and meadows, causing replacing rich meadow communities by artificial spruce monocultures, and intensive condensation of housing development in mountain villages. This tendency brings about the disappearance of dispersed settlement, traditional in the Giant Mts., and reduces landscape advantage. These processes, changing seriously the landscape structure, may result in the degradation of landscape assets, which largely contribute to the tourist attractiveness of the region. The described processes occur mostly outside the Karkonosze National Park. Therefore, the prevention of these tendencies requires the understanding of these problems of local authorities, which are the main subject of creating of the spatial policy trends.
