EN
Since the early 1990s, globalization has been a fashionable buzzword. The scientific community has responded with "the theory of globalisation", which provides promising codifications and a frame for further research. This theory describes globalization as a range of processes that is changing its boundaries. These boundaries are spatial, temporal and cognitive. These processes affect and are affected by many areas, including economy, politics, technology, society, and ecology. Health is mainly seen as the process of maintaining one's health status. The description of health is determined by a variety of individual, social, medical, and structural factors, like environment and economy in both national and international contexts (eg globalization). There are a variety of fields within this matrix of globalization that affect health. Debates over the merits and drawbacks of globalization for health are increasingly polarized. The evaluation of risks and the opportunities globalization provides for health is a field open for further research. (original abstract)
