Transaction Banking: an Examination of the Supplier Side in Germany

Abstrakty
Do certain developments in the field of transaction banking lead to 3-5 transaction banks only on the German banking market in the medium term? The fact that transaction banking is based on economies of scale theoretically supports the hypothesis of a consolidating market. But obviously the estimated number of today's 30 transaction banks in Germany is more likely increasing than decreasing. This contradiction can be explained by the existence of certain business segments within the whole transaction banking market, which differe in their state of development. The market for lending operations is in a founding phase with a still small number of suppliers. The payments processing market is growing and so the number of suppliers in this field is increasing, while the market for securities transactions seems to be stagnant. (original abstract)
