Przedstawiono przygotowania Łotwy do członkostwa w Unii Europejskiej. Omówiono wyniki głosowania w referendum o przystąpieniu Łotwy do Unii Europejskiej.

Accession referendum in Latvia took place on 20th September 2003. The turnout reached 71,49%. 66,97 Latvian citizens supported the accession, 32,26% were against. The authors describe political situation in Latvia before the referendum, evoking earlier geopolitical disputes and reconstructing a wide context of pro-European tendencies in Latvian politics. They also characterize and critically evaluate the pre-referendum campaign. The stress has been put on specific and unique features of "the Latvian road" to Europe. (original abstract)
