Plant protection as an area of research and agricultural activities was developing very dynamically in the past 50 years. The chemical plant protection is the most effective way of fighting agrophags. Plant protection programmers are based to a large degree on using chemical means of plant protection. In the beginning period of the transformation the market of the means of plant protection had to function without legal and organisational regulations. The introduction of the Act of the cultivated plants protection in 1995 legalised the turnover of means of plant protection. In 2003 year, 5517 economic entities were involved in the sales of the means of plant protection. The supply of pesticides on the market amounted to 26579t, and conversed into biologically active substance it amounted to about 1000 tons. The turnover in means of plant protection has been supervised since 1996 by State Inspection of Plant Protection, called since 2002 State Plant Protection and Seed Production Inspectorate.
