Autor przedstawił jedno z potencjalnie użytecznych rozwiązań problemów związanych z wyszukiwaniem i integracją danych w przedsiębiorstwie, jakim jest koncepcja map pojęć.

Topic maps is an ISO standard (ISO/IEC 13250) and related XTM 1.0 standard. Topic maps are knowledge representation technique very similar to semantic networks. A semantic network is created using a structure consisting of nodes and links. Key concepts in the map are: topics, associations and occurrences. Topics, which can be any abstract objects, are nodes of the network. Relationships between topics are denoted as associations. Occurrence represent a set of typed links pointing from the topic to a information resources that are relevant to the subject of a particular topic, such as document, document fragment, picture etc. The paper presents an introduction to the standard and discusses selected problems of topic maps construction. Finally potential applications of the maps and examples of usage are described. (original abstract)
