Abstrakty

Autor przedstawił miejsce kultury we współpracy europejskiej. Opisano również działalność stowarzyszenia Unia Teatrów Europy utworzonego w 1990 r. Jego celem jest uczestnictwo w budowaniu Unii Europejskiej przez kulturę i teatr, przez rozwijanie wspólnej działalności kulturalnej, która przekracza bariery językowe.

For the last twenty years we have witnessed an increased interest in the legal regulations in the sphere of culture and arts in the European dimension. At the beginning the European Communities, and later on the European Union, left these issues within the competence of their member states. Then a trend emerged to increase common participation of the "fifteen" in the sphere of culture. The author argues that the grass-roots initiatives, developing since 1983, exemplify the growing sense of authentic necessity to present cultural heritage to European societies. This is an expression of concern that the societies should be united not only in political and economic but also cultural dimension. Steps taken recently by the European Union and the introduction of the CULTURE 2000 programme reflect increased activity and the wish to build the unity among the European societies according to the principle "closer to the citizen", also in the sphere of culture. An example of such cultural co-operation reviewed in the article is the Union of European Theatres (UTE). It came into being in 1990 at the initiative of the eminent Italian Director Giorgio Strehler and now consists of 19 most renowned theatres. All ventures of the Union of European Theatres intend to convince the European communities that theatre can contribute to reconciliation and co-operation. Its ventures embrace primarily organisation of festivals, cycles of meetings of actors, directors, stage designers, critics and playwrights, as well as exhibitions and publications. The author is convinced that exchange of ideas and artistic views helps to strengthen universal - and therefore also European -values. The role of theatre as the most social-oriented of all arts - must be taken into account in the process of shaping of a common European home.(original abstract)
