The Social-Political Effects of the Invasion of Iraq

Abstrakty
W artykule podjęto próbę zwrócenia uwagi na skutki społeczne inwazji na Irak w 2003 roku.
This article examines the reasons for the invasion of Iraq and the complicated effects it has had on society there. Neither the political nor military powers responsible for the invasion were properly prepared to protect Iraqi culture or to guarantee safety for the country's inhabitants. The immediate liquidation of the Iraqi army, political parties, policies, and health care system have led to the collapse of order. The invasion has not improved living conditions or created jobs, nor has it created educational opportunities at any level. The lawlessness, violence and hopelessness in Iraq seem only to favour further destablisation. Before the invasion there was a wide range of religions, ethnicities, politics and values in Iraq, and some of this diversity still exists, but without the bright character it once had. The invasion has contributed to the growth of religious feelings. However, Iraqi's have proved incapable of implementing a system of democracy based on the North American model. The hasty implementation of democracy carries negative, pathological by-products that will lead only to more fighting and yiolence. (original abstract)
