Przedstawiono wzajemne uwarunkowania integracji gospodarczej i politycznej. Omówiono czynniki międzynarodowe warunkujące integrację europejską.

The aim of the following article is to show the effect of international factors on the direction of development of European integration under the assumption that the external international environment is the main determinant of the European integration process. The European integration process is shown in a historical perspective, with particular attention to its economic aspects. The author's deliberations on the international factors conditioning European integration emphasise the special status of the closely inter-linked economic and political factors of integration. The conclusion addresses the issue of whether the European Union is to a greater extent supporting integration processes at the global level or whether it is attempting to respond to the challenges presented by globalisation.
