Efficiency Problems of Farm Assets in Europe

Capital efficiency is a very important factor of competitive production. Technical development in countries with developed agriculture does not only focus on the purchase and the application of high performance assets and technology but the need for decreasing the amount capital fixed in farms in order to make production more economical has also become a very important aspect. This paper focuses on the investigation of some figures of the European Union for capital efficiency between 1989 and 2001. The results show that the capital efficiency of large farms is significantly better than that of smaller ones. Capital efficiency per unit territory showed an increasing tendency in the examined period. At the same time efficiency per output was on the decrease. The significance of fixed capital per unit territory is also proved by experience gained by Bavarian machinery rings where the average size of farms participating in the cooperation increased, but the total amount of fixed capital in the whole group of farms in machinery rings decreased by nearly 50 percent. These factors led to improving cost and capital efficiency and resulted in more competitive production. (original abstract)

W pracy dokonano przeglądu wybranych miar wydajności kapitału w Unii Europejskiej w latach 1989-2001 w działalności gospodarstw rolnych. Wyniki wskazują na lepszą wydajność kapitałową większych gospodarstw niż mniejszych.
