W artykule przedstawiono uwarunkowania ekonomiczne i proceduralne przystąpienia Polski do strefy euro. Zaprezentowano również korzyści płynące dla Polski z przyjęcia euro w aspekcie makroekonomicznym. Autor zamieścił również prognozy dotyczące daty przyjęcia przez Polskę waluty euro.

Euro as determinant of macroeconomic policy in the Polish economy After a long period of debate, the EU has made considerable progress towards integration on an unprecedented scale. At the same time, following dozens of years of abnormal economic evolution, Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland, struggle to overcome difficulties experienced in their own transitional processes, on their way to eventually become par members in the European financial structure nicknamed "Euroland." Poland, as a country with derogation status, has been obliged to access the EMU. Following its accession to the European Union, Poland has been expected to meet the Maastricht convergence criteria and eventually join the Euro area. It seems obvious that an irrevocable decision to give up an autonomous monetary policy and substitute domestic currency with the currency of a supranational economic entity should be preceded with careful examination of the process costs and benefits. This paper deals with such a cost-benefit analysis regarding Poland and briefly describes legal and macroeconomic preparation to launch Euro in Poland. The subject is topical, considering a heated public debate emerging over Poland's accession to the Euro zone.
